Biography

Frederick Katzenberg's oboe solo concert career is based in eastern New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, where he has performed in concert halls, theatres, museums, churches, and libraries. He also has toured western New York and Washington D.C., and given recitals at William Paterson University, Ramapo College of New Jersey, and the Moravian College Music Institute. In New Jersey, his recitals have been broadcast on television and on the internet. Mr. Katzenberg received a NYSCA grant to present a concert series in Putnam County. He premiered in New York and New Jersey, the Dace Aperans Juravas (Sea Songs). He also premiered in the same two states, the Walter Skolnik Oboe Sonatina.

In New York City, Mr. Katzenberg has given solo performances on New York Radio Stations WQXR and WFUV, and oboe recitals at the Lincoln Center Library, St. Bartholomew's Church, and New York University. He was a regular soloist at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and soloed in the premiere of a Michael Ward work at the Third Street Music School and in several premieres of David Clancy works at the Marymount Manhattan Theatre.

Before focusing on his solo career, Mr. Katzenberg was a member of the Irvington Festival Opera Orchestra and the Westchester (NY) Symphony. He co-founded Time’s Trio and the Lexington Woodwind Quintet, and later founded the Katzenberg Classical Trio. He has also played in pit ensembles for operas and musicals in New York City and Rockland County.

He is a graduate of the Mannes College of Music, where he studied oboe with Lois Wann. Earlier, he studied with Dale Hunter at McGill University, and Lucien Debray of the Paris Opera, at l'Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris.
